Thai helpers currently comprise the third largest population of domestic workers in Hong Kong, with a population of roughly 5,000. A stronger Thai economy versus Philippines and Indonesia has resulted in comparatively fewer outbound workers, who are more likely to find viable employment opportunities in their home country. Those who do choose domestic work in Hong Kong usually come from Thailand’s rural North and Northeast.
